The following instructions will guide you through the required e-mail setting changes in Outlook Express 6.
Open Outlook Express
At the top of the page click on the 'Tools' menu and then select 'Accounts...'
Click on the 'Mail' tab.
Select your e-mail account and click on the 'Properties' button.
Make sure your name and e-mail address are listed on this screen.
Please note: If 'Reply address' is left blank, the program will automatically use 'e-mail address'.
Click on the 'Servers' tab at the top.
Make sure that your settings look like the settings shown in this screenshot.
Incoming mail (POP3): pop.can.rogers.com
Outgoing mail (SMTP): smtp.can.rogers.com
Account name: Your e-mail address
Password: Your e-mail password
Outgoing Mail Server: Make sure 'My server requires authentication' is checked
Click on the 'Settings...' button.
Select the first option, 'Use same settings as my incoming mail server' and click the 'OK' button
Click on the 'Advanced' tab.
Make sure that your settings look like the settings shown in this screenshot
Click 'OK', and then 'Close'. You should now be able to send and receive e-mail.
Can't Send Email?
If you can receive email but you can't send email after following the instructions above, you will need to change your
outgoing mail (SMTP) port from the default of 25 to 1025.
To do this:
Click on 'Tools' then 'Accounts...' then select the 'Mail' tab. Highlight the account you wish to change and click the 'Properties' button followed by the 'Advanced' tab.
Now, under Server Port Numbers change 'Outgoing server (SMTP)' from 25 to 1025.
