| Standard Definition Hookups |
When you are connecting a standard definition television to your Digital Cable Box, there are three choices in the type of cabling you can use. Make your selection by clicking on one of the pictures below:
 | Coaxial Cable Coaxial cable is the standard television cable that comes from the wall socket. Virtually all TVs and VCRs have coaxial cable jacks. Coaxial cable provides the lowest quality of the three choices shown here. - Composite cables may be required for some hookup variations.
|
 | Composite (RCA) Cable Composite cables (also known as RCA cables) are the most common method of connecting video components such as televisions, VCRs and DVD players. They provide better signal quality than coaxial cable. - Coaxial cable will still be required to connect your Digital Box to your cable outlet.
|
 | S-Video Cable S-Video cable is a high-quality, digital cable to connect your television directly to your Digital Box. It provides the best signal and picture quality of the three choices here, and is the recommended connection for equipped standard definition TVs. - While VCRs and DVD players with S-Video jacks exist, they are rare, and S-Video cables generally connect your TV and Digital Box only. Composite or coaxial cable will be required to connect other devices.
- S-Video cables carry video only. A separate composite cable will be required for audio.
